A Reverence for Traditional Architecture
Munarq Studio has designed a rustic house in Mallorca that pays homage to the land it occupies. Integrated seamlessly into the surrounding landscape, Ca S'Alou consists of two symmetrical volumes inspired by the sestadors, a traditional Mallorcan structure originally intended for livestock. These blocks sit naturally on the hillside, adapting to its contours and creating a harmonious composition of simple shapes that embrace both the native vegetation and the architecture.
With its Mediterranean atmosphere, the house is designed on a single floor and offers breathtaking views over the Bay of Alcudia and the Sierra de Tramontana. The material choices play a crucial role in the design; the characteristic reddish soil of the island, known as call vermell, has been excavated on-site to construct the façade and to create other elements, including terracotta blocks and paint. Local materials, natural fibers, and light tones are employed in both the furniture and the selection of art and decorative elements.
In keeping with the project's sustainability principles, Santa & Cole lamps provide a warm ambiance, whether by the pool, on the charming porch, or in the private interior spaces. This timeless design features quality pieces that promise to illuminate every corner of this remarkable home.
