Designer: Samuel Wilkinson

Sorpresa is lightweight, voluminous pendant lamp, crafted from recycled and recyclable materials. Astep's Sorpresa pendant lamp, designed by Samuel Wilkinson, and is a large yet lightweight fixture with a touch of surprise, hence it's name. While most oversized lamps require some assembly, Sorpresa is ready to use right out of the box: thanks to its ingenious frame mechanism, the lamp unfolds straight from the package, ready to be hung!

Crafted from recycled and recyclable materials, the Sorpresa's shade is made of a mesh fabric that gently diffuses light, revealing the geometric outlines of its expertly assembled oak frame. With a width of one meter, the Sorpresa makes an impressive choice for lighting above a dining table or in a living space - particularly in more spacious rooms where it can be surrounded by ample open space.

Alessandro Sarfatti, inspired by his father's belief in perpetual progress, founded Astep, a company intertwining three generations of design ethos with modern lighting technology. With a rich family history in design, Alessandro's grandfather, Gino Sarfatti, revolutionized the lighting industry through Arteluce. His father, Riccardo, alongside his mother Sandra Severi, further innovated by blending design and technology with Luceplan. Astep creates new products for the home – objects that bring digital technologies to the forefront of our domestic lives. In addition, Astep revitalizes iconic works of Gino Sarfatti and Vittoriano Viganò, carrying on the Sarfatti family's enduring avant-garde spirit.

The English Samuel Wilkinson graduated from Ravensbourne College of Art & Design in 2002. Already during his time in Ravensboure he won several awards for his works. In 2007 he founded his own industrial studio. He has participated in many large projects which of the most famous is the designing of a metal tree, L’arbre de Flonville, in the center of Lausanne. Samuel Wilkinson is always looking to add a fresh and dynamic approach in either form or function.
