Enigma 425 Pendant Light

The Japanese designer Shoichi Uchiyama approached Louis Poulsen with the Enigma 425 pendant design, which they then collaboratively put into production in 2003. The year after, it won an iF Design Award in Germany.
The Enigma interprets a classic chandelier in the form of slim layers of concentric circles consisting of floating shades held by thin wires. Enigma, meaning mystery, refers to the fact that the shades seem to hover, when viewed from a distance with the light on.

The fixture emits an attractive downward directed light, free from glare. The design of the shades provides a uniform illumination of the surface, where the matt surface on top diffuses the light softly and the shiny surface below ensures perfect reflection of the light.
