The floor lamp provides an even and diffused light, which is primarily downwards directed. The opal acrylic shades make the lighting soft and pleasant with a warm glow due to the red hue of the top reflector.

The design is based on Poul Henningsen’s celebrated three-shade system that he created in 1925 to shape excellent non-glare lighting.

Henningsen had a distinct scientific approach to light and continued to design numerous luminaires based on the same system. He used the logarithmic spiral as the foundation and accomplished even distribution of light with the multi-shade-system that made it possible to curb glare and shadow.

PH 80 was created in 1974 to celebrate what would have been Poul Henningsen’s 80th birthday, as the name of the floor lamp also indicates.

The fixture emits a diffused, reflected, symmetrical light. The majority of the light is directed downward. The opal acrylic shades provide comfortable room lighting. On the orginal fixture, the red hue of the top reflector adds an intense, warm glow to the light. The black and white fixtures have a white top reflector that reflects the light for a clean, elegant look. The choice of light source will determine the color of the illumination.
